Belkis Ayón Manso

Education and Professional Experience
She studied the specialty of Engraving at San Alejandro Provincial School of Plastic Arts, and graduated in 1991 from the Higher Institute of Art of Havana. Her work comprises different techniques such as lithography, calcography and colography.
She performed a wide professional labor that included the curatorial work of exhibitions presented in Cuba and abroad. She conducted workshops and conferences in diverse national and international events. She participated as a juror in events celebrated in the country.
She was a professor of Engraving at San Alejandro School and at the Higher Institute of Art from 1993 through 1998.
In 1998 she was elected vice president of the Association of Plastic Artists of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
Awards and Residencies
She received important prizes and distinctions during her career, among them: First Prize of the Engraving Biennial, Maastricht, Holland; Prize of the Meeting on Engraving 1993, Provincial Center of Plastic Arts and Design, Havana, Cuba; Mention in La Joven Estampa, Haydee Santamaría Gallery, Casa de las Américas, Havana, 1990; Prize of the Twelfth Biennial of Latin American and Caribbean Engraving, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1997.
In 1996 the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba granted her the Distinction for National Culture.
Collections
Her work is part of numerous collections of museums and private institutions.
