Statement

My work is essentially a satirical reflection of the Cuban phenomenon. With it I intend to recreate and transmit to the viewer from a very personal point of view of what is happening in my country and which I think might also be happening in other Latin American and Third World countries in general. The themes I tackle most are the loss of values, corruption, prostitution, the economic crisis, exodus and family division.
I would like people to see themselves reflected in my works; I would like them to interact and establish their own reading.
Depending on the conceptual and formal demands, I use drawing, engraving and painting as means of expression.
I avail myself of quotations and aesthetic appropriations from universal art that range from Byzantine art to the great 20th century movements such as Pop Art. The use of this resource enables me to parody, emphasizing on that satirical spirit I wish to achieve, based on well-known images and iconographies that I de-contextualize and add to our Cuban environment, where they have a different dimension: that of the absurd and anachronistic.
